Day to Day Itinerary

Certainly! Here’s a day-to-day itinerary for the 7-day Rongai Route climb on Mount Kilimanjaro

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer to your hotel in Moshi. Attend a pre-climb briefing with your guide to discuss the trek and check your gear. Overnight stay at a hotel in Moshi.

Day 2: Moshi to Rongai Gate to Simba Camp

After breakfast, drive to Rongai Gate (1,950 meters) for park formalities. Begin hiking through rainforest, spotting wildlife and diverse flora. Trek to Simba Camp (2,625 meters) for dinner and overnight camping. Lunch on the trail.

Day 3: Simba Camp to Second Cave

After breakfast, trek through the moorland, with a gradual ascent. Reach Second Cave (3,450 meters) in the afternoon. Lunch on the trail. Dinner and overnight camping at Second Cave.

Day 4: Second Cave to Kikelewa Cave

Breakfast at Second Cave. Continue trekking through moorland, crossing several ridges and valleys. Arrive at Kikelewa Cave (3,600 meters) in the afternoon. Lunch on the trail. Dinner and overnight camping at Kikelewa Cave.

Day 5: Kikelewa Cave to Mawenzi Tarn Camp

After breakfast, ascend further through alpine desert and volcanic rocks. Reach Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330 meters) with stunning views of Mawenzi Peak. Lunch on the trail. Dinner and overnight camping at Mawenzi Tarn Camp.

Day 6: Mawenzi Tarn Camp to Kibo Hut

Breakfast at Mawenzi Tarn Camp. Traverse across the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo, a desert-like alpine zone. Arrive at Kibo Hut (4,703 meters) in the early afternoon. Rest and prepare for the summit attempt. Dinner and early bedtime at Kibo Hut.

Day 7: Summit Day - Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut

Wake up around midnight for a light snack and final preparations. Start the summit attempt, hiking steep scree to Gillman's Point (5,681 meters). Continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters), the highest point in Africa, for sunrise. Descend back to Kibo Hut for brunch and rest. Continue descending to Horombo Hut (3,720 meters) for dinner and overnight camping.

Day 8: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate and Departure

Breakfast at Horombo Hut. Descend through moorland and rainforest to Marangu Gate (1,860 meters). Collect summit certificates and bid farewell to your mountain crew. Transfer back to your hotel in Moshi for a celebratory meal and overnight stay.
